GLEANING GROUP???

We call it a gleaning group because often we are able to glean extra produce from land owners who can't process it themselves...often they will want some of the pickings but usually they do not....we are able to pick and can what would otherwise be wasted.

Another version of this involves my scratch and dent operation. I buy this scratch and dent from restaurant suppliers - it is usually a case of food that has been damaged in some way that mars the container but does not affect the quality of the item. Actually I have found that it surpasses the quality of the food in a normal grocery store or buying club nine times out of ten. I sell this to customers for 50% or less than lets say (Smiths). This allows my customers to get twice as much food for the same amount of money that they would otherwise spend.

I also use this for gleaning and allow those who are interested in working for food storage to can it up (such as meat). When they do this canning then I supply my jars, they supply theirs and I provide the meat, they provide the labor.....and we split the canned food in the end. To assure that we have a safe product in the end I provide instruction in the canning process. Some also dehydrate fruits and vegetables for the same situation. This works very well for both of us as I have almost no time and for someone who has a little more time than me it can prove very beneficial for both of us.

I always am on the search for canning jars and have been blessed to find them at DI for quarts @ .35 ea and pints @ .25 ea. If you are doing this try to make sure that the bottles are BALL or KERR or MASON. We haven't had much success with the sealing capabilities of the no-branders. I buy these every chance I get at yard sales etc. also, so, I should have some extras at these prices to share with any gleaners who haven't been able to find them.

introduction to SURVIVAL SENSE

There are many options for our personal survival in this world (particularly in our own homes) but our focus is primarily on the BASIC ESSENTIALS e.g. Food, Clothing and Shelter...we have a few methods that have been particularly successful for us and are excited to share in those successes that you are willing to share....WELCOME!!
